Read a date, keep the uncertainty

Check a date code

Read only the first four numeric date-code characters. This tool runs in your browser. It does not send or save your code. Do not enter the rest of the serial number.

Read the supported format

Other eras and serial styles may use different codes. Confirm the format before relying on an estimate.

Date-code result

Unclear until you confirm the format and check a date code.

The manufacture date shown by the serial number is not the same as your warranty start date. Most warranties run from the installation or purchase date and can depend on registration and proof of purchase. Only Rheem or Ruud can confirm whether your unit is covered.

Rheem water-heater rating labels described by the cited manufacturer page. HVAC units and other serial layouts are not covered. Ruud has a separate evidence limitation below.

Reading the manufacture date code

The described rating label has 10 characters. The first two indicate a month from 01 to 12; the next two are the year code. The fifth identifies a plant line, with the remaining five identifying the unit sequence. The manufacturer page does not specify the century or the date range for this convention.

Manufacturer's published rule, as stated on Rheem's page on 2026-11-05.

What remains unclear

  • The century is unclear; this guide does not convert the year code into a full year or exact age.
  • Start and end dates for this label convention are unclear.
  • Other water-heater styles and all HVAC date codes are not decoded.
  • The location of the rating label on the tank is unclear from this source.
