Leatherman Warranty: What's Covered and How to File a Claim

Is it covered? (quick verdict)
- Term: 25 years, counted from the date the user receives the tool. Members of Leatherman's Insider programme are described as getting a 40-year extended term S1.
- Who: the original or primary owner, for tools bought for personal use. Commercial accounts and bulk purchases for resale are excluded. The tool must come from an authorised dealer S1.
- Remedy: repair, or if that is not possible a comparable refurbished replacement. Retired or limited-run models may be swapped for an equivalent. For Leatherman Garage products there is no replacement; an unrepairable item gets store credit for the purchase value S1.
- The page's claim form is for US residents; Canadians are sent to a separate Canadian page S1.
- Exclusions include abuse, loss or theft, corrosion, cosmetic finish and marking, normal wear, routine sharpening, sheaths and most accessories, and apparel S1.

How to file, step by step
- Complete the online Repair or Replace form on Leatherman's claim form, one per tool S1.
- Print the packing slip emailed to you and put it in the package S1.
- Ship the tool, insured and trackable, to the address on the form. Leatherman says it is not responsible for parcels that do not arrive S1.
How long does it take?
Brand statement: The FAQ asks for 7 business days to assess and process a case after your tool is checked in; the packing-slip section says to allow 10 to 15 business days to complete the warranty S1.
Customer reports, not verified (Trustpilot reviews of Leatherman's UK site, not the US process; dates as shown S2):
- One customer reported in December 2024 waiting eight weeks with no reply on a multi-tool, then hearing it could not be repaired.
- One customer reported in March 2025 that 20 working days had passed since Leatherman received a returned item.
- One customer reported in April 2026 a replacement knife arriving in seven days.
- One customer reported in June 2026 a replacement within 10 days.
Common reasons claims are denied
- Abuse, alteration, theft, loss or unreasonable use S1.
- Rust, oxidation and other corrosion S1.
- Cosmetic issues such as finish wear, scratches, imprinting or laser marking S1.
- Normal wear and routine maintenance or sharpening S1.
- Accessories and sheaths (with a few listed exceptions carrying a 2-year limited warranty) and apparel S1.
- One customer reported in August 2024 that a sheath claim was refused after delays because accessories are not covered S2.
Before you buy or if your claim is denied
Buy from an authorised dealer and keep proof of purchase. Replacements may be refurbished or a comparable model, not an identical new tool. If a claim is denied, check whether the part is an excluded accessory and consider a repair shop or sharpening service for wear items.
